This summer feels like the end of an apocalypse film, where a ragged group emerges from their underground bunker, blinking in the sunlight and looking around to survey the aftermath of the meteor strike/nuclear war/global pandemic. As COVID-19 cases continue their downward trend in the US, we’re left with some major fallout to deal with. Provider burnout is at an all-time high, Americans are experiencing an unprecedented mental health crisis, and healthcare inequities are increasingly severe.
There’s no way around it – we have a lot of work to do. The decisions we make (or don’t make) now will have major effects down the line for both individual health systems and healthcare as a whole. It feels overwhelming, but a foundation of digital innovation, partnerships, and collaboration will help us build a post-COVID-19 healthcare industry we can be proud of. Let’s get started.
When it comes to incorporating personalization in healthcare, we can’t wave a magic wand and suddenly be operating at the highest level of hyper-personalized care (wouldn’t that be nice?). Instead, health systems should break down hyper-personalized care into tiers, starting with laying the data foundation and working up to personalized care plans & early disease detection.
