CHICAGOWednesday, June 11, 2025 – AVIA, the leading digital transformation partner in healthcare, today announced the winners of its fourth annual AVIAwards. The AVIAwards program honors health systems at the forefront of leveraging digital capabilities to enhance consumer engagement, optimize care delivery, and improve operational efficiency.

AVIAward winners 2025

Recipients were selected based on the results of the 2024 AVIA State of Digital Transformation Report, which uses self-reported data from health systems to evaluate digital health adoption and impact over the 2024 calendar year. The awards recognize organizations demonstrating significant progress and measurable outcomes in digital health transformation.

MemorialCare, a leading nonprofit health system serving Orange and Los Angeles Counties, was recognized with the Overall Consumer Digital Award. MemorialCare also received awards for Most Improved for Virtual Visits and the Best in Ambient Documentation for the second consecutive year.

The organization secured the Overall Consumer Digital Award by demonstrating superior performance across key digital engagement metrics, including the highest percentages of ambulatory appointments available for online scheduling, ambulatory appointments scheduled online by patients, synchronous and asynchronous virtual visits (15% of their patients were seen by virtual visits), and self-service digital registration/check-in via website or mobile app. The Ambient Documentation category was awarded for their high percentage of ambulatory visits notated using Ambient Clinical Documentation, as well as their high percentage of providers using Ambient Clinical Documentation for ambulatory visits.

“At MemorialCare, we believe that digital transformation is not just about adopting technology – it’s about creating a seamless, meaningful experience for every patient we serve,” said Anne LaNova, Executive Director, Digital Consumer Experience at MemorialCare. “This recognition is significant as it compares us with dozens of other health systems across the country. It reflects the dedication of teams across our organization and our ability to make care more accessible, efficient, and personalized.”

Sutter Health, a not-for-profit, people-centered healthcare system providing comprehensive care across California, earned multiple awards for Best in Online Scheduling and Most Improved for Online Scheduling, recognizing their dedication to integrating technology to enhance access and convenience for patients. Nineteen percent of their ambulatory appointments were scheduled online by patients, and 83% of their lab appointments were scheduled online by patients in 2024

“At Sutter Health, we’re relentlessly focused on removing friction, getting the whole job done and anticipating future needs when it comes to advancing our digital consumer experience. Empowering people to easily schedule the care they need—when and how they need it—is foundational,” said Jennifer Bollinger, Senior Vice President, Chief Consumer & Brand Officer at Sutter Health. “We’re proud of the recognition based on the benchmarking AVIA provides through its network of leading health systems.”

Additional AVIAward recipients include:

LifeBridge Health received the Digital Registration Award by demonstrating superior performance in patient-centered technology adoption, achieving the highest percentage of ambulatory visits where patients successfully completed self-service digital registration and check-in via website or mobile app (61% of patients).

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was honored with the Virtual Nursing Award (VRN) for achieving the highest overall percentage of inpatient admissions (50% of admissions) and discharges (48%) completed by a virtual nurse. According to the health system, Preliminary data show that their program “is enhancing safety, enabling more meaningful interactions with patients and elevating both the patient and the nursing experience.

Between April 25 and Sept. 15, MD Anderson VRNs completed admission paperwork for 650 patients and discharge teaching for 854 patients. This translates to more than 400 hours returned to the bedside nurse, enabling more patient interactions and care activities.”

Main Line Health received the award in Most Improved Digital Registration, which is based on the highest percentage of ambulatory visits where self-service ‘Digital Registration & Check-In’ is utilized via a website or mobile app. More than 525 of patients used their digital system, an improvement of 17% over 2024.

MUSC Health, The Medical University of South Carolina’s Health System, was honored with the Virtual Visits Award, recognizing the highest overall percentage of ambulatory visits conducted as synchronous (12% of patient visits) and asynchronous (6% of patient visits) virtual visits.

“The AVIAwards highlight the remarkable progress and innovation AVIA Members are driving in digital transformation,” said Clay Holderman, CEO of AVIA. “We are proud to celebrate these leaders who are setting new standards in healthcare excellence and inspiring the future of digital health.”

The AVIAwards were announced at the AVIA Digital Innovation Leaders Forum in Chicago. This year’s Forum also featured updates on AVIA Nexus, which provides health systems with a unique opportunity to solve the most pressing business challenges. AVIA officially launched two Nexus platforms in February and already has 20 health systems and partners participating.
