Allina Health Joins AVIA and Affirms Commitment to Improving Care through Digital Innovation

CHICAGO — Allina Health, a leading not-for-profit health system that serves communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, has joined AVIA, the nation’s leading network of healthcare organizations committed to transforming care through digital innovation.

The decision to become an AVIA Member extends Allina Health’s legacy of weaving innovation into its daily delivery of quality patient care. For example, earlier this year, the health system launched a new patient portal built around user-centered design principles. Allina leaders regularly convene digital customer experience focus groups to ensure that the voices of its most crucial stakeholders are incorporated into the system’s planning.

“As one of the largest health care systems in the Midwest, it’s imperative we continuously advance the care we provide our patients and the communities we serve,” said Richard Magnuson, EVP, Chief Financial Officer, Allina Health. “Partnering with organizations like AVIA and its network of nationally recognized health care systems, we will be able to advance our work by tapping into expertise, while contributing perspectives that can improve health for others.”

AVIA helps its Members make more informed decisions about their digital strategies and investments. That means everything from evaluating how virtual care solutions can improve the patient experience and reduce costs … all the way to determining which artificial intelligence tools can significantly reduce clinician burnout. Comprising over 40 health systems throughout the United States, AVIA’s Network collaborates to understand new markets more comprehensively, select and scale new technologies more confidently, and realize value more completely.

Said AVIA CEO and Co-founder Eric Langshur: “At AVIA, it’s not just digital for the sake of digital. It’s digital with a constant connection to a measurable result—growth, efficiency, outcomes. That’s what makes Allina Health such a strong addition to the AVIA Network and a valued voice among the organization’s peer health systems.”

Allina Health’s engagement in the AVIA Network will initially center on the Medicaid Transformation Project. With participating health systems that span more than 21 states and encompassing more than 5% of the nation’s hospitals, the Project is a national effort to transform healthcare and related social needs for the nearly 75 million Americans who rely on Medicaid. Over a two-year period, participating health systems will identify, develop, and scale financially sustainable solutions that improve the health of underserved individuals and families in their communities.

“We are passionate and purposeful about building better health for the diverse communities we serve,” says Penny Wheeler, MD, President and CEO of Allina Health. “We joined the Medicaid Transformation Project because we believe in collaboration, not duplication. Working with AVIA and other leading health systems will help us get to better health and care faster for vulnerable populations.”
