Clay Holderman is the Chief Executive Officer of AVIA. He has more than 30 years working in health systems and has extensive experience leading initiatives that improve health outcomes and organizational effectiveness. An accomplished healthcare executive, Clay most recently served as president and CEO of UnityPoint Health, a $4.5 billion health system in the Midwest consisting of 17 hospitals, a pioneering home health services division, a specialty pharmacy division and a $100 million venture capital fund. Prior to UnityPoint Health, Clay spent 13 years at Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) in New Mexico culminating as executive vice president and chief operating officer. PHS is a $4.7 billion system regarded as one of the largest and most integrated provider-led health plans in the nation with more than 800,0000 members across Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and commercial insurers. Clay also served as CEO of two hospitals for Ardent Health and led the consolidation of two tertiary hospitals. Clay began his career with LifePoint Health as they executed the spin-out from Columbia HCA into a NASDAQ-traded entity. He has also served as an advisor to private equity firms including Buckhead Investment Partners of Atlanta and Three Trees Capital Partners of Minnesota. Clay has an MBA from Colorado State University and a B.A. from Texas A&M University. He completed a Fellowship in Health System Administration from the Health Management Academy GE Fellows Program and a certificate program in AI in Healthcare at MIT. Clay has been married to his wife, Shawna, for 30 years and they have raised four children. They enjoy all things outdoors including hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and keeping the Labradoodle happy. Clay and Shawna believe in giving back and are passionate about causes tied to childhood cancer including Make-A-Wish and efforts to improve treatment for osteosarcoma through organizations such as St. Baldrick’s and BreakThru Cancer.
